Y.O.U.N.G

Y.O.U.N.G

A short plot:
3 of the young detectives are send back to High School, and they have to act like new students. They are send for a mission to find informations about somebody. In time the two girls in the group slowly get attracted to Ian, which cause tension, also some funny actions. Even though they have to work together, they might do things to sabotage and embarrass each other in front of Ian, and also their bosses in the agency. They will have to pretend to be normal teenagers once again.

Characters:
Ian (Paul Wesley): Tall, mysterious and attractive 20 year old, who is an agent working for FBI/other known institution. Usually serious, smart and a bit anti-social, although he is always in the middle of attention from girls' side. Distrustful and careful, but if you're able to gain his his trust and friendship, he will be the most loyal friend you'll ever have. He was raised in a orphanage.

Alexandria (Emma Watson): 19 years old. Very elegant and well-mannered. Her dad is very rich, but her mother died when she was very young and she misses her terribly. She is very sensitive, sensible and mature. Smart, but she puts her feelings first. The audience may like her because of her sweet personality and great sense of style. Although she is a nice person, she gets a lot into fights with Anna Lee, her partner in this mission.

Anna Lee (Dakota Fanning): 18 years old. Anna is the only child, spoiled by her parents. She is spontaneous and dynamic. She's not afraid of anything, and she says whatever is on her mind before thinking it through. Can be rude, but she is going to be liked by the audience because of her bubbly personality and great sense of humour. She likes to argue. She is creative, she is a quick thinker, and likes to respond with violence. Tense situations with Alex, as they both fancy the same guy.

First Episode {pilot} :
The heart of the institution - we can see the detectives working on their computers. Cameras/Spies. The camera sliding through the rooms, making it clear for the audience where they are. The camera finally slides into a man who talks to another detectives about something. Finally we meet our three main characters (however, we cannot see their face) - who on the same time, see themselves for the first time. They sit down, in an isolated room and are told the story - that they are going to High School, and pretend to be normal students again, and they are told about the situation that is going on - murders/kidnapping etc.
The last words from the man's mouth is "Now you are, the Y.O.U.N.G" while the screen goes black, and the sound goes off. Few seconds later we see them coming out of the car, wearing black sunglasses, walking towards the school, while the students look at them shocked.
The first episode is going to be mainly about the characters trying to learn about each other, and going into a teenage world again. They learn who is who, where is where. Anna Lee quickly becomes popular, which causes many funny situations.

Information about the Show :
Around 3 or even 4 seasons, each having 20 episodes, 40 minutes on air. Showed on Channel E4 (popular from teenage audience - has many shows for teenagers), around the 8 o'clock on evening, when most of the teenagers are home already, sitting in front of. There might be some strong language sometimes, alcohol and drugs as I want to show a real world of teenagers, so they can relate to what is happening. I also think it will be more interesting for them to watch a show like that, then an innocent series showing a completely different representation of teenagers.

Season 1 : Our characters get into the High School life that they never had (they were all home schooled). They learn about normal teenagers' lives and try to act like them to not stand out. Anna becomes popular and organises proms, and becomes a leader of the cheerleading team, while Ian is constantly stalked by a group of girls crushing on him causing many funny situations.

Season 2 : Most of the fights between Alex & Anna Lee start to happen, as they both start to fall for Ian. They have to work together as one, what is very hard for them and they try to embarrass themselves in front of everyone. Sometimes it even comes to sabotage, so that the other one gets kicked out of the team (Ian will have feelings for both, although he will try to stay away from it - this will cause Shipping Wars from the audience side which is very addictive, and it is a very easy way to get the show popular and addictive)

Season 3 : The High School finishes, but the trouble is still there. 3 of our characters get into gang problems, and they will have to solve it by becoming close with it's members. Ian will have to choose between Anna and Alexandria.

Season 4 : Gang Wars.

Additional
The episodes are going to look quite dark, and it's going to be filmed in many different locations around the city so that the audience gets interested more. The main effect in terms of editing is going to be black outs - nothing more to show the more mature side of the series, which could attract the older audiences which would want to see the lives of younger people.

We are going to have antagonists throughout the series, although with likeable features, so that the fandom will be split, and there is going to be lots of people with different favourite characters. They will also have lots of situations with the main characters - some of them ever teasing the fandom to 'ship' them together - which will cause the audience to explode with Shipping Wars, obsession, fanart, fanvids and fanfiction which will make the show popular.

SHIPPING (DEFINITION)A term used to describe fan fictions that take previously created characters and put them as a pair. It usually refers to romantic relationships, but it can refer platonic ones as well. (Just think of "shipping" as short for "relationSHIP".)

Antagonists from Season 3

Samy Mikealson (Tom Kaulitz) - 20 year old main-member of one the most dangerous gangs in North Carolina. Similar to Ian if it comes to personality. Although he seems cold and aggressive, he is over protective of his younger brother and he tries to keep him away from the gangs. They were both raised up on the streets. We get to know his good side later on in the story.

Tyler Mikealson (Bill Kaulitz) - 17 year old. Just like Samy, he wouldn't hesitate to sacrifice himself for his brother. Caring, but a little naive, often gets in trouble and has to count on Samy most of the time.

TV Crime Drama, 26.02.12

(Because Melina isn't here, and I can't get into her blog to improve our work, I will write it down again, this time on my blog with little changes).

The name of our show was Y.O.U.N.G, which stands for Young Operation Undercover New Generation.
The team is called Young by their work buddies, who are way older than them. We came up with this because it's like a code that is used when working with e.g the police, FBI, etc.

It's Subgenre is Comedy. The sense of humour lets audience know more about the characters. Comedy is also used in most E4 shows. Also we decided to add comedy, because we think that it will more connect with teenagers who are our target audience, as a Crime Drama on it's own may sound a little bit boring to this age group, as they like things exciting, funny, and dramatic on the same time.

The Target Audience are teenagers. We decided that because most of the Crime Dramas are for adults, and we wanted to do something different. The main characters are also teenagers, so the audience will relate to any of the situations.

We came up with 3 main characters, who are currently studying on university. They became young detectives, and are very important and useful for their agencies.
We have Ian, the only male in the group, he is good looking which might interest girls to watch the series, and two girls - Alexandria and Anna Lee. Alex is the smartest and the most sensible one, very sarcastic which might be very welcomed from the teenagers side because the use of sarcasm is funny, and seen as popular. Anna Lee, she's the most pretty though. She is more like most of the teenagers girls. Cares about her looks, boys, celebrities etc.

I decided that Ian should be played by Paul Wesley, because he is very popular with the age group that is going to be our target audience. He currently plays in Vampire Diaries as Stefan, and he got famous thanks to that role.

The show will be on Channel E4 (we decided that, because E4 channel has very successful shows for teenagers), around evening (6pm) or later, because than most of the teenagers are home, and watch TV. It could be on 5 days a week, and have around 3 seasons. The next seasons may have other main characters, with similar story but different personalities etc.

Social Aspect: We wanted to create a facebook page for the show, as it is very popular for teenagers to spend time on it these days. It's easy - one person "likes" the page, it shows on it's profile, and 400 other people will see it. We thought of giving some informations about the show on a page, some pictures of behind the scenes, and some activities for the fans which may be rewarded later.
We'd like to be close to our audience, talk to them a lot, ask about their opinions etc.

A short plot:
3 of the young detectives are send back to College, and they have to act like new students.

Levels

Sara - Level 5 (high)
You have a potential to achieve level 6!
I really enjoyed watching your film - it kept me interested all the way though. I love the voice over, the range of different shots, and the acting too. In my opinion, you have to add a different soundtrack. Also, I didn't understand the last scenes and I had no idea what was going on. I think more clips should me added:)

Genia - Level 4
It was really fun to watch your trailer. I think the soundtrack was well put, and so were the scenes. It kept me interested, and the titles also had a good impact. I think you should add more effects to the clips and you should play with the voice overs to achieve a higher level.

Sasha - Level 4
You also can easily improve your mark! I liked the dramatic scenes, and the sound that matched it perfectly. You just have to finish it!! ;)

Melina - Level 5 (low) / Level 4 (high)
I think you used the clips smartly, and you've put everything in a very good order, so the people know what is happening. I liked the opinions in betweens the clips that made me want to watch the whole movies.

Shima's group - Level 4 (high)
I think that it is very hard to understand what is happening in the trailer. If I didn't hear the story before, I would have absolutely no idea what is it about. I think that you should add more subtitles, and add more voice overs to tell us the story! All though I thought your clips are very interesting, so is the shots.

Sheida's group - Level 5 (low)
Very interesting! I enjoyed watching this video a lot, because of your professional editing, however I wouldn't give you a full mark for level 5, as the soundtrack was, in my opinion, badly chosen. It was the same music playing through the clip, and it was getting pretty boring. You have to improve that, and add more sounds. I also had no idea what was the story about, however I loved your shots, and though it would be interesting to watch the whole movie.

Tarryn - Level 3/4
All though the shots were interesting, they were repeating themselves a lot. The whole film looked more like different scenes put together then a trailer. You would have to improve that by cutting out some of the moments! :)

Practical Work

For the practical work on today's lesson we have learned about different shots and how to show something to the audience, just the way we want to.
  • How to make someone look powerless or powerful (camera shots - lower angle etc.)
  • How to make a person look confused or angry just with camera angles.
  • How to use a point of view (from following someone)
  • How to show bad, boring, plane relationship with people.
  • How to make someone look scared.

Submarine

  • What sort of feeling and impact can music video have and what effect could a music video-style sequence achieve in film?
  • Music video that has scenes of a movie in it can be a big success for the film director. It tells about the movie in a very interesting way. One of the examples is Paramore - Decode that has put many of the Twilight scenes in their music video and it was a big success not only for the film but also for the band. It gives out all the story in a musical way.
  • What are the similarities of the Submarine trailer and the music videos?
  •  They both have a similar fading look, and look kind of old school. They also have a typical sense of humour, which could be called original.

Short Script - English

All this scenes I am planning to record several times to get lots of material for editing. Probably some of the scenes will be deleted, shorten up or changed.

Scene I – *high key lightning* , * music* Extreme long shot, showing the graveyard. Two girls walking through the allay laughing

Scena II – One of the girls pushes the other one, and in the result the torch on the grave breaks.  The other character goes off (to buy another one) where the other one stays and cleans it up. She slowly touches the name and date written on the grave studying it.

Scena III – *low key lighting*, *music and sounds in the background muted*, *cloudy* The only thing we can hear is Kamila’s breath and the see the concentration in her eyes, like she’s trying to remember something. Soon we can hear another breath, and she movs away from the grave.

Scena IV - *fog* Next to the grave we can see a ghost – her ghost, transparent (put two layers of the movie with her, and the clip of the grave on its own, put it together) in a long, Victorian dress, with her hair down with red lips. Kamila frozed. The ghost is coming towards her, reaching out for her.

 -------- fade out ---------

Scena V - *Dark, smoke, music* the tempo of the music and the pictures going through drastically  accelerates.
The main character and her friends sit in some kind of a pub (Speed Rock). We can hear laughing, talking. Still chuckling, Kamila goes off to search for her friend. When she gets in the toilet, we can see blood on the floor, leading her into the body. She screams when fade out.

Scena VI – A formal call, informing that her family died in the car accident
Scena VII – Again and again, the most important people in her life die.

Scena VIII – Forest. Low key lightning.
She’s clearly depressed, having a walk with her dog. Suddenly the dog starts to bark within a reason, and runs away. The girl gets the hint. We can hear her saying “you’re here. Show yourself” She was clearly scared. Her reflection showed up.

Scena IX - "you killed them"

Scena X – A text “you’re the most important person for me”

Scena XI – A liblary. Kamila is nervously going through the books. She found a big, old, dusty book. She starts to read it between the cabinets. The camera goes round to show the time, showing in a fast tempo the pages turning. She runs off to the computer.

Scena XII – She writes in google “old incarenations”. Highlighted words like “kills everything on its way”

Scena XIII – She runs through the tracks.

Scena XIV – She pushes a person that she cares about, she clearly got crazy, screaming “shes going to kill you, shes here”

Scena XV – She finds a note written in a black ink/blood informing here, that she will stop only if she agrees to swap lifes with her.

Short additional scenes:
-          Her laying in the snow
-          Her, standing on a viaduct
-          She trips over while running through the tracks.
-          Must have smudged make up to show that she is going crazy.
